Unique community scales up thanks to web application
Socius Wonen turns vacant offices into suitable housing for young people in a way that’s unusual in the real estate sector: young people play an active role in the transformation and management of a property. Socius Connect, which was developed by Way2Web, is the digital heart of this unique initiative that now offers housing to more than 2,000 young people.

Socius Connect: the digital heart
Way2Web transferred all business units to a tailor-made, fast, robust system: Socius Connect. Subsequently, we set up a tenant portal where residents can find information and organize a lot of things independently, so the customer service and accounting departments are dealing with less pressure.
For example, a malfunction report is directly sent to a maintenance company, after which an appointment is made without the intervention of Socius. When a room becomes available, a recruitment campaign is automatically started, and tenants can pick their new roommates on open house days.
As a result, vacancy and loss of rental income are rarely an issue anymore. Residents are happy and feel involved. And the back office benefits from time savings of 30%.
Testing in practice
This project required proper planning to ensure that current business operations were not impeded. That is why the various system parts could only truly be tested after going live. Here’s how we handled it: we optimized the support process and made clear agreements.
Ready for further growth
With Socius Connect, all stakeholders and all work processes are interconnected through one integral web application. Currently, 2,000 young people live in 17 properties – in Utrecht, Leiden, Amsterdam, and Wageningen, among other places. Several thousands are on the waiting list. Maintenance is performed in collaboration with approximately 30 external suppliers.
